You might read this and think "Who is this girl and why does she think she has something important to say?". You may be right. My goal is to give hope and maybe a bit of inspiration to people who have found this page.

I chose this picture because I wanted to show that some things are just too much, but can be interesting. Stories that you hear are just that. They can so good, but not good for you. I chose the title "narrativetherapygirl" because I believe in the power of a story. As a counseling student, you learn different therapy models that help counsel your clients using their own successes and communication skills. Narrative therapy is a great model. I plan to break it down in another post in the future.
The power that a story has on a person can be amazing. You would be surprised how many people are the not the star of their own lives. To paraphrase a character from The Holiday(by the way, it's a good movie, you should check it out), your life is like a movie. There is the leading actor and the best friend. Why are you playing the best friend and not the leading actor?
No one should play second fiddle or lead in their own life story. It is your life story. I am preaching here to myself as well. Don't worry. I have done this for most of my life. I have put my life on hold to help others on more than one occasion. But I have learned that this is not okay, and I need to take control of my own life for once. I am working on that right now. You could say that this is the start.
This is not one of those when I say that 2017 is the year that I do something great. I did not wait until the new year to do something and neither should you. New Year's resolution are nothing but reasons to procrastinate. Start now, don't wait until January. If there is something you want to do, start today. Right now. Get away from this reading, and do something. If you want to lose weight, find a doctor that can help you. If you want to get rid of some bad people, jump on social media and start deleting. Start deleting those from your life that you feel are not contributing to you or your life's successes. Some of those are seasonal friends anyway. You want to buy your first home, find a financial advisor and see if it is the cards for you. Start a savings account for your kids. Take on a new hobby. Whatever you want, just go ahead and get started.
Thank you for reading and don't forget that you are awesome.
