Musical Inspiration

I have found inspiration through heavy metal and rock music. I was never the one to go to rap or hip-hop. Metal and rock just spoke to my soul. I have rattled a few windows in my past blasting some Metallica in my bedroom. There were times when my mother thought that I was losing it. I had my goth days and my days in all black clothing and dark attitude. I would sing Enter Sandman all day long at the top of my lungs in high school. That music video did give me a bit of a headache, but I still like it. So when I ran across this article about the band’s new label, I was immediately interested in what they had to say. I will provide the citation for the article so you can find the article for yourself.

Drummer Lars Ulrich said something that just made my mind go into another level. He talks about how to become a rock star in three steps. He said that first, you must find like-minded people who are as passionate as you are. This makes complete sense. If you want to succeed in something, not necessarily music, you need to have a support system. You need people who have the same mindset as you. The last thing that you need is a person who does not have your back. You need people that will share your passions and revel in your success. The second step is to stay true to your own ideals. I shouldn’t have to tell you how many times that my lack of focus has held me back. Some choices will be unpopular to the masses. You will do something because you believe in every part of it and if you focus on past mistakes or steps so much, you will never progress of your eventual goal. You have to welcome the challenges and use them as milestones to your eventual goal. The final step is to remain committed. You have to remain committed to the goal of becoming a rock star. If there is talent and ambition present, someone or something will find you. The goal will only be complete if you remain committed to the task.

The article goes over the goals that the band set for themselves over 30 years ago. If anything, I learned that persistence is key. You have to remained focus on the goals you have set for yourself. The band has said that they wanted to be able to change music and how it is given to society. Their battle over drugs, band shakeups, death, and Napster have shown that they can overcome any challenge. They can go through hell and come back on top. There will be challenges and you should expect them to be thrown at you when you think is the absolute wrong time. I would suggest that you read the article if you are a fan of their music. If you are someone who wants to know how to be a grownup and maintain their youth, check out the article. If you want something as a tool of self-exploration, just read it. What do I want for you after reading this? I want you to explore your self-esteem or confidence. I would like for you to understand how finding something outside of your favorite music or media can help you understand yourself. Find that rare CD or artist, and explore. You may find something that you could like.

Have an awesome day!
