New Year, skip the resolutions

On January 1st, people all around the world would have made these resolutions that they cannot live up to. They vow to quit smoking, drinking. They vow to lose weight or exercise. They want to stop doing something that they think is harmful to their character. But the thing is that why are you waiting until January to stop something. Just do it now!
Don't wait to make changes for yourself or your family. You are not promised tomorrow. If I learned anything from my mother's death in July, it is that you have to take control of your own time. If you waste it, you cannot get mad that you don't have any left. I am not knocking those who choose to make the resolutions, but it is a bit shaky. If you are not happy with your life, find the solution and do the steps to make your happiness a reality. I do not make resolutions, but I do make plans to do things throughout my years. So far, I have been doing pretty good. I started this blog. I enrolled and am almost done with graduate school. I got a Bachelor degree(in my family, this is a high accomplishment). I have a home of my own. My health is in working order. It took years to get all of this, and I have a long way to go. I want to get my therapist's license in Illinois and other states. I want to write a book of poetry and short lessons. I want to buy an apartment building and rent out apartments to college students who cannot afford to stay on campus and people who have been discriminated against because of the HIV or AIDS status. I would like to flip a house on my own. These are serious goals and it will take time, but I am not waiting until the new year to put these ideas into the universe. I have been saying these goals out loud for years. It takes time to complete them, but I have not given up.
If you have a goal, don't give up so easily. Yes, there will be challenges that will smack you in the face. There will be challenges that will put you on your backside. But it is more important how you get up from these challenges. It is not about what people call you or say about you, it is more about how you respond to them. It is about you apply about what you have learned from the covert hostility(what up Scientology reference) and use it to shove up their backside. Prove your haters wrong. Prove your detractors wrong. Show them what you are made of. When you succeed, it may be them that will need your help more than anyone else. It is the human condition that may play out here.
Okay, I loved the play Rent. So I put the opening song here(but the one from the movie has always been my favorite version)---

Okay, I just love this song. I may have used it before, but it is soulful to touch and just lets you know what is going on. She tells what you she wants, and what you will get, and what is the result. This girl can SANG!!
